Air Fryer Okra is a quick and healthy twist on the Southern classic. Crisped to perfection without the deep-frying oil, this easy recipe uses fresh okra and bold spices for a flavorful snack or side dish. Perfectly seasoned, gluten-free, and air-fried in under 15 minutes!
Ingredients
1 pound fresh okra pods, trimmed and halved lengthwise
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons cornmeal
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper or chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
1. Rinse the okra pods and pat them dry thoroughly. Trim the tops and slice each pod in half lengthwise.
2. In a large bowl, toss the okra with olive oil to coat.
3. Sprinkle in cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add cayenne if using. Toss again to coat evenly.
4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
5. Place the okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding.
6. Air fry for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway through. Add an extra 1–2 minutes for more crispiness if desired.
7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or as a side dish.
Notes
Dry your okra completely before seasoning to reduce sliminess.
Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket so each piece gets evenly crisp.
Swap cornmeal with panko or omit for a lighter, less textured version.
