Description
This Brown Butter Cream Cheese Frosting delivers nutty, caramelized depth with the perfect balance of tangy cream cheese and velvety texture. Ideal for frosting cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more, it’s rich, creamy, and completely irresistible.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, browned and cooled 8 oz cream cheese, softened 3 to 3 ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted 2 teaspoons vanilla extract ⅛ teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Add the butter to a light-colored saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently as it melts, foams, and starts to brown. When golden flecks appear and it smells nutty, remove from heat and pour into a heat-safe bowl. Chill until soft but not solid. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until completely smooth. Add the cooled brown butter to the cream cheese and beat together until fluffy and well combined. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well between additions until the frosting is thick and smooth. Add vanilla extract and salt. Beat until everything is fully incorporated and the frosting is creamy, spreadable, and pipeable.
Notes
Let the brown butter cool to a soft, spreadable consistency before mixing with cream cheese to prevent curdling. For extra stability, refrigerate the frosting for 15–20 minutes before piping. Sift your powdered sugar for the smoothest finish—no lumps allowed.
