Description

This Classic American Apple Pie is the ultimate nostalgic dessert—featuring tender tart and sweet apples, a flaky double crust, and warm spices. Whether served at a holiday feast or a cozy weekend dinner, it’s pure comfort in every slice.

Ingredients

2 discs pie crust (for top and bottom)

4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced

2 Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons butter, cubed

1 egg

1 tablespoon milk

1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

1. Make the pie dough in advance. Combine flour, salt, butter, and ice water to form dough. Divide into two discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least one hour.

2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out one dough disc and line your pie dish. Chill the second disc for the top crust.

3. In a bowl, combine sliced apples with both sugars, lemon juice, zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Let the filling rest while preparing the top crust.

4. Pour filling into the crust and dot with butter. Roll out second dough disc for lattice or full top. Crimp or seal edges.

5. Beat egg with milk for egg wash. Brush on top crust and sprinkle coarse sugar if using.

6. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake 35–40 more minutes until golden and bubbly.

7. Cool pie for at least 3 hours before slicing to allow filling to set. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor and texture.

Chill the pie dough thoroughly before rolling to keep it flaky.

If edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil halfway through baking.
