This Cozy Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze is a golden, flaky braided pastry filled with cinnamon-spiced apples and finished with a drizzle of sweet vanilla glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, it’s easier than it looks and makes your kitchen smell like a bakery!
Ingredients
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
3 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and sliced thin
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
1 egg + 1 tablespoon milk (egg wash)
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
1. Prepare the apple filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, cook the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Stir until apples soften and mixture thickens, 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
2. Roll out the puff pastry: On a floured surface, roll each pastry sheet to a rectangle if needed. Slice horizontal strips about 1 inch apart down both long sides, leaving the center third intact.
3. Fill and braid: Spoon the cooled apple mixture down the center of each pastry. Fold over the side strips, alternating, to create a braided effect. Tuck and seal the ends.
4. Brush and bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place kringles on parchment-lined baking sheets. Brush with egg wash. Bake for 22–25 minutes or until golden and puffed.
5. Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm kringles. Let set before slicing.
Notes
Be sure the filling is cool before braiding to prevent soggy pastry.
Use all-butter puff pastry for richer flavor and flakier texture.
Glaze right after baking while the kringle is still warm for best absorption and shine.
