Description
These Espresso Apple Cream Cheese Danishes are a bakery-style breakfast you can make right at home. Featuring buttery puff pastry, tangy cream cheese filling, and apples poached in espresso and cinnamon, they’re topped with caramel drizzle for the perfect finish. Ideal for brunch, dessert, or a cozy coffee pairing.
Ingredients
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
6 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples, thinly sliced (Honeycrisp or Pink Lady)
1/4 cup brewed espresso
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1/4 cup caramel sauce, for drizzling
2 tablespoons pearl sugar or crushed nuts (optional)
Instructions
1. In a saucepan, combine sliced apples, espresso, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until apples are just tender. Remove from heat and cool.
2. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Set aside.
3. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rounds using a cookie cutter. Score a smaller circle inside each round.
4. Place pastry rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spoon cream cheese mixture into the center, then top with espresso-poached apple slices.
5. Brush the pastry edges with beaten egg.
6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–22 minutes or until golden and puffed.
7. Cool slightly on a wire rack. Drizzle with caramel and sprinkle with pearl sugar or nuts if using.
8. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Make sure the apples are well-drained to prevent soggy pastry bottoms.
Use a sharp knife to lightly score the inner circle—don’t cut through the pastry.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the apple filling.
