Flaky Sweet Almond Pastry

Description

A golden, flaky puff pastry filled with a sweet almond paste center, topped with toasted sliced almonds and powdered sugar. This bakery-style pastry is surprisingly easy to make and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.


Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

6 oz almond paste

2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1 large egg, beaten (divided)

1/4 cup sliced almonds

Powdered sugar, for dusting


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, mix almond paste, butter, sugar, and half the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the filling down the center third of the puff pastry.
  5. Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry. Fold strips over filling, alternating sides.
  6. Brush top with remaining egg. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and puffed.
  8. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
