Description
A golden, flaky puff pastry filled with a sweet almond paste center, topped with toasted sliced almonds and powdered sugar. This bakery-style pastry is surprisingly easy to make and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
6 oz almond paste
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 large egg, beaten (divided)
1/4 cup sliced almonds
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a bowl, mix almond paste, butter, sugar, and half the beaten egg until smooth.
- Spread the filling down the center third of the puff pastry.
- Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry. Fold strips over filling, alternating sides.
- Brush top with remaining egg. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
