Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup buttermilk

Additional granulated sugar for rolling

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting after baking


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  6. Scoop dough, roll into balls, and coat with sugar.
  7. Place on baking sheet and bake 10–12 minutes.
  8. Cool 5 minutes on sheet, then transfer to wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
