Description

These Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks combine the creamy pull of melted cheese with a spicy, crunchy Southern-style coating. Perfect as a snack, party appetizer, or game day treat, they bring the heat and the comfort in every bite.

Ingredients

12 mozzarella sticks (low-moisture, part-skim)

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons hot sauce (optional)

1/4 cup buttermilk (optional)

1 cup panko bread crumbs

1/3 cup fine cornmeal

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Set up breading station: In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk eggs with hot sauce and buttermilk if using. In a third bowl, mix panko, cornmeal, and all seasonings.
  2. Coat the cheese: Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, dip in egg wash, then roll in breadcrumb mixture. For extra crunch, repeat egg and breadcrumb step.
  3. Freeze: Place coated sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry sticks in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve: Enjoy immediately with ranch or your favorite dipping sauce.
