Description

Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler is a soul-warming Southern classic that brings together sweet, juicy peaches and a buttery, golden-brown crust baked to perfection. Simple ingredients and minimal effort create a dessert that feels both homey and indulgent, perfect for family dinners or holiday gatherings. Serve it warm with a scoop of ice cream for the ultimate comfort treat.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

Pinch of salt

1 cup milk

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

4 cups sliced peaches (fresh or drained canned)

1 tablespoon lemon juice (if using fresh peaches)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Extra sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare peaches: peel and slice if fresh; drain if canned. Toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg if using.
  2. Melt butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish by placing it in the preheating oven. Remove once fully melted.
  3. Make the batter: Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Stir in milk until smooth, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Pour batter into the baking dish over the melted butter. Do not stir.
  5. Spoon peaches evenly over the batter. Sprinkle with extra sugar if desired.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Best served warm.
