Ingredients
4 slices sturdy bread (sourdough or Texas toast recommended)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup marinara sauce
8 slices pepperoni (optional)
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or chopped fresh basil
Instructions
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- On the non-buttered side, spread a spoonful of marinara sauce.
- Add a layer of mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices if using.
- Sprinkle Italian seasoning or fresh basil on top.
- Close the sandwich with the buttered sides facing out.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Remove from heat, slice, and serve hot.
