Ingredients
40 salted saltine crackers
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Crushed peppermint candies, sprinkles, or sea salt (optional for topping)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to fully cover the baking sheet.
3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add brown sugar and stir constantly until combined. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring the whole time.
4. Pour hot toffee mixture evenly over the crackers. Spread gently with a spatula to cover.
5. Bake for 5 minutes. The toffee will bubble and begin to set.
6. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let sit 2–3 minutes to melt, then spread into an even layer.
7. While the chocolate is still warm, add your toppings of choice—crushed peppermint, flaky sea salt, or sprinkles.
8. Let cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
9. Once fully set, break into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
Don’t skip the boiling time for the toffee—3 minutes is essential to ensure it sets properly.
Let the chocolate rest before spreading; it melts better and glides more smoothly.
Store in the fridge for firmer texture or freeze for up to 2 months for longer storage.
