Description
This Slow Cooker Apple Butter is a rich, spiced fruit spread that simmers low and slow, delivering deep caramelized flavor and cozy fall aroma. It’s perfect on toast, swirled into oatmeal, or gifted in jars for the holidays. With simple ingredients and minimal hands-on time, this recipe is a must for apple season.
Ingredients
6 pounds apples (Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith mix)
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into chunks.
2. Place apples in a slow cooker. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir to coat apples evenly.
3. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally if possible.
4. Once apples are fully broken down and dark in color, use an immersion blender to puree until smooth. If using a regular blender, allow mixture to cool slightly before blending in batches.
5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
6. Allow the apple butter to cool, then transfer to jars or containers. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
A mix of apples provides the best balance of sweetness and tartness.
Don’t skip the vanilla—it rounds out the flavor beautifully.
Apple butter thickens more as it cools, so don’t overcook trying to reach the final texture.
