Smothered Turkey Wings Gravy

Smothered Turkey Wings Gravy

  • Author: Jam Scott
  • Total Time: 3 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

Smothered Turkey Wings Gravy is the ultimate comfort food—tender, oven-baked turkey wings blanketed in a rich, onion-forward gravy. It’s Southern soul food at its finest, perfect for cozy dinners or holiday feasts.

Ingredients

4 whole turkey wings

2 large yellow onions, sliced

3 cups chicken broth

4 tablespoons butter

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

1. Pat the turkey wings dry and season them with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and seasoned salt.

2. In a skillet or roasting pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the wings until browned on all sides.

3. Remove the wings and set aside. In the same pan, reduce heat and sauté the sliced onions until golden and soft.

4. Add butter to the onions, then stir in flour to make a roux. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly.

5. Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking, scraping up any bits from the pan. Simmer until the gravy thickens slightly.

6. Transfer the turkey wings to a baking dish and pour the gravy over them. Cover tightly with foil.

7. Bake at 325°F for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the wings are fork-tender. For extra browning, remove foil during the last 15 minutes.

8. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or cornbread.

Notes

Patting the turkey wings dry ensures a better sear and crispier skin before baking.

For deeper flavor, use a mix of turkey broth and chicken broth.

If freezing, portion the wings with gravy into containers for quick future meals.
