Description

This swirled garlic herb and cheese bread is a pull-apart loaf that’s equal parts show-stopper and comfort food. Buttery garlic herb layers are swirled with melty cheese for a golden crust and fluffy, flavor-packed interior.


Ingredients

1 batch bread dough (brioche, challah, or pizza dough)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cloves garlic, minced or roasted

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon fresh basil or thyme (optional)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)


Instructions

1. Soften the butter and mix it with the garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper. Set aside.

2. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

3. Spread the garlic herb butter over the surface of the dough.

4. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the butter.

5. Roll the dough up tightly from the long edge into a log. Pinch to seal.

6. Slice the log lengthwise down the center to expose layers.

7. Twist the two halves together, cut sides facing up.

8. Transfer to a greased loaf pan or lined baking sheet. Let rise for 30–45 minutes.

9. Brush with egg wash and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until golden.

10. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheese for better melt and flavor.

Let the dough rise fully after shaping to ensure a light texture.

Don’t skip the egg wash—it creates that irresistible golden crust.
