Description
Tacos Dorados are crispy, golden tacos filled with seasoned ground beef, folded and fried until crunchy, then topped with fresh, cool ingredients. A Mexican street food classic turned family favorite, they’re perfect for weeknight dinners or party platters.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
12 corn tortillas
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded lettuce (optional topping)
½ cup crumbled cotija cheese (optional topping)
½ cup sour cream (optional topping)
½ cup pico de gallo or salsa (optional topping)
1 avocado, sliced (optional topping)
Instructions
1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook diced onion until soft.
2. Add ground beef and break it up with a spatula. Cook until browned.
3. Stir in garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.
4. Warm tortillas in a skillet or microwave to make them pliable.
5. Add 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture to each tortilla, fold in half, and seal. Use toothpicks if needed.
6. In a skillet, heat ½ inch of vegetable oil over medium-high.
7. Fry the tacos in batches, 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and crisp.
8. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
9. Serve hot with lettuce, cheese, sour cream, salsa, or avocado on top.
Notes
Use slightly stale corn tortillas to prevent tearing when folding.
Always fry seam-side down first to keep tacos sealed.
Reheat leftovers in an air fryer or skillet to retain crunch.
