Description
This rich and hearty Bolognese sauce is a comforting classic perfect for pasta nights. Made with ground beef, tomatoes, herbs, and a touch of cream, it simmers into a deep, savory sauce that clings beautifully to any pasta. Make it ahead or freeze it—this one’s a keeper.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (80/20)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1/4 cup milk or cream (optional)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 4–5 minutes.
2. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
4. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.
5. Add crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
6. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Stir in milk or cream during the final 5–10 minutes if using, for added richness.
8. Serve hot over pasta and garnish with basil or parsley.
Notes
Letting the sauce simmer longer (up to 2 hours) enhances the depth of flavor.
Use San Marzano tomatoes for a brighter, naturally sweet sauce.
This sauce freezes exceptionally well—make a double batch for future meals.
