Description

These are the softest, fluffiest, golden-topped dinner rolls you’ll ever bake from scratch. Buttery, pillowy, and lightly sweetened, they are perfect for holidays, weeknight meals, and everything in between.

Ingredients

1 cup warm water

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

¾ cup warm milk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

1 large egg

1 ½ teaspoons salt

4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, mix warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. In a large bowl, combine yeast mixture, warm milk, melted butter, egg, and salt.

3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

4. Knead dough for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1½ hours or until doubled in size.

6. Punch down dough, divide into 12–16 portions, and shape into balls. Place in a greased 9×13 baking dish.

7. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

8. Preheat oven to 375°F.

9. Bake for 18–20 minutes, until tops are golden brown.

10. Brush rolls with melted butter while warm. Serve fresh!

Notes

For extra fluffy rolls, make sure your yeast is fresh and water isn’t too hot.

Chill the dough overnight after the first rise for make-ahead convenience.

Brush with garlic butter for a flavorful twist.
