Description

This Cheesy Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole combines all the best parts of a burger—savory beef, melty cheese, and a hint of tangy ketchup—with crispy tater tots baked on top. It’s easy, hearty, and guaranteed to become a weeknight family favorite. Perfect for make-ahead meals, potlucks, or just when you’re craving the ultimate comfort food.


Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 medium yellow onion, diced

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup chopped pickles or cooked bacon (optional)


Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and diced onion until fully cooked.
  2. Drain excess fat. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 2–3 minutes. Add the cream of mushroom soup and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Stir until well combined. Spread the beef mixture evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture
  5. . Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese on top of the tater tots.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the tots are golden and crisp.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle with chopped pickles or crumbled bacon. Let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Always use frozen tater tots straight from the bag to ensure they crisp properly.

For a stronger cheeseburger flavor, mix in a splash more mustard or Worcestershire.

This dish freezes beautifully. Cool completely, portion into containers, and freeze for up to 2 months.
