Description

Chicken Kofta with Garlic Yogurt is a flavorful Mediterranean-inspired dish featuring juicy spiced chicken meatballs served over a tangy garlic yogurt sauce. Whether served as an appetizer or a main, it’s a dish that’s both comforting and refreshingly light.

Ingredients

1 lb ground chicken

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced (divided)

1/2 small onion, grated

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

1/2 tsp paprika

1/4 tsp chili flakes

3/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

1 cup Greek yogurt

1 tbsp olive oil (for yogurt sauce)

Pinch of salt (for yogurt sauce)

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, grated onion, 2 cloves of minced garlic, parsley, cilantro, breadcrumbs, egg, cumin, coriander, paprika, chili flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

2. With damp hands, shape the mixture into small oval or cylindrical koftas. Place them on a tray and chill for 15 minutes.

3. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the koftas in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.

4. In a bowl, stir together Greek yogurt, 1 clove of minced garlic, a pinch of salt, and 1 tbsp olive oil until smooth.

5. To serve, spread garlic yogurt onto a serving plate, top with hot koftas, drizzle with more olive oil, and sprinkle with extra herbs if desired.

Notes

For extra juicy koftas, use a mix of chicken breast and thigh meat or add a tablespoon of olive oil if using lean ground chicken.

Chilling the koftas before cooking helps them hold their shape and prevents crumbling in the skillet.

Serve immediately over warm garlic yogurt for best flavor and texture. Leftovers reheat well in a skillet or oven.
