Description

Classic Dirty Rice is a bold and flavorful Southern dish made with ground beef, aromatic vegetables, Cajun seasoning, and long-grain white rice. This comforting one-pan meal brings a taste of Louisiana straight to your kitchen with just the right amount of spice and soul.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

3 cups cooked long-grain white rice

1 medium green bell pepper, diced

2 celery stalks, diced

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

1 cup chicken broth

1/2 cup green onions, chopped

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.

2. Add the diced onion, celery, and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until vegetables are soft and fragrant.

3. Stir in the minced garlic and Cajun seasoning. Cook for 1 minute to bloom the spices.

4. Add the cooked rice and pour in the chicken broth. Stir well to combine everything evenly.

5. Let the mixture simmer for 3–5 minutes until the broth is absorbed and the rice is heated through.

6. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped green onions. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

7. Serve hot as a main dish or hearty side.

Notes

For even more authentic flavor, substitute part of the ground beef with chicken liver or pork sausage.

Day-old rice works best as it holds its shape better than freshly cooked rice.

Adjust the Cajun seasoning to taste—some blends are saltier or spicier than others.
