Description

Crockpot Dr Pepper Chicken is a quick dinner, easy dinner, and family-friendly comfort food recipe made with tender shredded chicken, barbecue sauce, and Dr Pepper for a sweet smoky flavor. This easy recipe is perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, game day sandwiches, and simple food ideas when you need satisfying dinner ideas with very little hands-on work.

Ingredients

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts

1 cup Dr Pepper

1 cup barbecue sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

6 sandwich buns

2 tablespoons chopped parsley optional

1/2 cup sliced red onion optional

Instructions

1. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.

2. In a bowl, whisk together the Dr Pepper, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.

3. Pour the sauce over the chicken, making sure the pieces are well coated.

4. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.

5. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.

6. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir it into the sauce.

7. Let it sit on warm for 10 to 15 minutes so the sauce soaks into the chicken.

8. Serve the chicken on sandwich buns with parsley or sliced red onion if desired.

Notes

Chicken thighs can be used instead of chicken breasts for even juicier shredded chicken.

For a thicker sauce, leave the lid slightly open for the last 20 to 30 minutes of cooking.

This chicken is also great served on slider buns, over baked potatoes, or in wraps.
