Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
Topping:
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in shredded cheddar cheese evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Spread the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and parsley. Brush over the hot loaf.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
